SEÑORA Holly Parsons
TAYLOR & IGO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
¡Hola! My name is Holly Parsons and I will be teaching Spanish Grades 1-4 at the Taylor and Igo schools this year! This is my first year teaching at the elementary level but I am not new to Foxborough Public Schools; I spent the last four years teaching grades 5&6 at the Ahern Middle School. I am grateful to be part of such a warm and supportive school community!
I grew up in Medfield, MA, where I took Spanish and had the opportunity to participate in the study abroad program. Living in southern Spain for two weeks with a Spanish family as a 16-year-old absolutely ignited my passion for traveling and learning Spanish! I attended college in North Carolina and again spent time studying abroad in Spain through the University of Salamanca. After college I lived and worked in Florida, Costa Rica, Boston, San Francisco, and Brooklyn before returning to New England in 2016. I settled in Providence with my family and started teaching in Foxborough that same year. I have a 7-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter, and I like to dance, do yoga, and be outdoors (preferably at the beach!) in my free time.
I am really excited to use comprehensible-input strategies to teach my students this year, meaning that students learn languages best from listening to it in a way they can understand it. A LOT of listening is required before students are ready to speak a new language. Think about how long a baby listens to their parents before they can communicate in whole sentences! Having realistic expectations is an important part of feeling successful in language learning as well.
I know this year will be different in a lot of ways but please don't hesitate to reach out (email is best: [email protected]) with any questions or concerns. I look forward to all the songs, books, video clips, and conversations I will share with your kiddos this year!
